Volunteers sought for July-August trip to Bosnia

The Rev. Amy Gregory, pastor at the Greene United Methodist Church is looking for people to join a Volunteers in Mission (VIM) trip to Bosnia to help in the recovery efforts in the wake of severe flooding in May.

Rev. Gregory is hoping to add at least three and as many as eight volunteers to a team of four. The team would leave on Aug. 3, 2014 from New York City and fly back to theU.S. on Aug. 14.

Work will involve building walls, roof, interior walls and helping to finish off the interior of the home of a man who heads up the volunteer association of war vets with post-traumatic stress disorder.

No special shots are required for travel to Bosnia; a tetanus shot is recommended. Passports need to have a minimum of two visa pages available and should expire no sooner than January 2015. Rev. Gregory estimates the cost - based on a seven-person team, including airfare - to be $2,550. Fundraising is underway to cover the building material cost of approximately $785 per person.

"I was so sad to see the catastrophic flooding that happened in Bosnia in May," Rev. Gregory said. "I hadn't planned on taking a team this summer, but the Spirit has been working overtime on my heart and I just have to do it! I am hoping there are folks out there with a passport and a flexible, fun spirit ready for an adventure. The people ofBosnia will really touch your heart."

For more information or to join the team, contact Rev. Gregory at (607) 875-4079.
