Opening Carol                 Sing We Now of Christmas                    #237

Sing we now of Christmas, Noel, sing we here!

Hear our grateful praises to the babe so dear.

Refrain

Sing we Noel, the King is born, Noel!

Sing we now of Christmas, sing we now Noel!

Angels called to shepherds,

“Leave your flocks at rest,

Journey forth to Bethlehem,

find the Child so blest.”

(refrain)

In Bethlehem, they found him;

Joseph and Mary mild,

Seated by the manger, watching the holy child.  (refrain)

Offertory Prayer

God of hope and joy, the gifts we offer to you pale when our minds try to grasp all we have been given in this season: wholeness in our woundedness, hope in our despair, peace in our turmoil, forgiveness in our rebellion. Like Simeon, our eyes have seen your salvation, and you give us light in our darkness. Help us embrace your extravagant generosity as we give ourselves to others. In our Savior’s holy name, we pray. Amen. (Luke 2:22-40)

Christmas Carol              Angels We Have Heard on High   vs. 1 & 3          #238

Angels we have heard on high sweetly singing o’er the plains, and the mountains in reply echoing their joyous strains.

Refrain - Gloria, in excelis Deo! Gloria, in excelis Deo!

Come to Bethlehem and see Christ whose birth the angels sing; come, adore on bended knee, Christ the Lord, the newborn King. (Refrain)

Scripture               Isaiah 61:10-62:3

61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

61:11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.

62:1 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch.

62:2 The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give.

62:3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

Moment of Reflection

Christmas Carol              O Little Town of Bethlehem          #230

O little town of Bethlehem

How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight

For Christ is born of Mary

And gathered all above

While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love
O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And Peace to all on earth

How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven
No ear may hear His coming
But in this world of sin
Where meek souls will receive him,

Still the dear Christ enters in.

O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in,
Be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel
